Best Places to Stay in the Litchfield Hills
Traditional Hotels, Inns, and Bed and Breakfasts
If you’re looking for hotel chains, you’re going to be wildly disappointed. You can find some slightly outside of the scope of this guide in the towns of Danbury, Waterbury, and Torrington. That said, hotel chains are not why you came to the Litchfield Hills. With the scarcity of chains, there really aren’t a lot of true budget options, but at least you’ll find charm to go along with the higher prices that you’re paying.

$$ - Mid-Price Accomodations
One of the more “urban” options on this list, the Homestead Inn stretches across two buildings and sits at the end of the village green in New Milford, Just a few minutes’ walk from several great restaurants.
This historic colonial has a collection of two-story suites within sight of the Housatonic. It’s extremely close to the Appalachian Trail and a particularly beautiful stretch of the river.
Perched on a hill overlooking Lake Waramaug, this 1870’s farmhouse serves as a B&B in a beautiful location. Great location to pop down the street for a glass (or bottle) of wine from Hopkins Vineyard
This stylish B&B in the Western part of the region has a building that’s been in this spot since before the revolution. Set among a beautiful garden complex and a great outdoor pool, The Inn at Kent Falls will not disappoint.
This charming inn in the extreme Northwest Corner of the state also comes with a great restaurant and some lovely public spaces.
$$$ - Upscale/Luxury/Spa
One of the most luxurious places to stay in the area, this elegant retreat is extremely popular and set it the beautiful town of Washington. The Grace Mayweather has all the amenities - tennis courts, pools, spa, gardens, and a fine restaurant – and it is truly one of the nicest places to stay in New England. Just be warned, it does come at a price.
This is a truly unique property that houses 15 luxury cottages with high design that you wouldn’t normally expect in a rural setting like this. The experience at Winvian can be private or communal, active or relaxing. One thing’s for sure…it will be memorable.
